Local newspapers and council coverage… yes, it’s helpmeinvestigate day 3.5.

Sorry for the spam.

*waves it off*

It’s fine, you’re used to it by now.

Anyway, Sarah Hartley started a very curious investigation last year talking about the amount of local coverage in local newspapers.

So, I’ve decided to do my part and throw in some information about The Telford Journal (and later, if i can find it, The Shropshire Star).

Essentially, there is a very complicated system to work out the amount of coverage.

I lie.

You count the pages dedicated to news.

Each lead story counts as 1 page.

A picture story is a half.

Any other story, counts as a quarter.

Add them up, add them into a spreadsheet and percentage is made.

Magic.

It’s interestng stuff; a lot of different newspaper has very different ways of handling the news and the numbers aren’t as poor as I would have expected!

The invitation to join in is here, so click away if you want to help out because you’re all lovely.
